Small Is Powerful: How Compact Design Drives Competitive Advantage

At interpack 2026, SIKO demonstrates how compact changeover solutions create new opportunities.

As machines become increasingly compact and modular, the requirements for every single component continue to rise. SIKO is showcasing its answer at interpack in Düsseldorf from May 7–13 in Hall 12, Booth A46: the electronic position indicator AP05. Developed and manufactured entirely in Germany, it is barely larger than a breakfast egg, making it the most compact solution available on the market.

Counting on Each Millimeter

Packaging machines today require compact components more than ever: diverse formats, quick changeover times, and limited space. This is precisely where the AP05 comes into play. With dimensions of approximately 35 mm x 36 mm x 72 mm (D x W x H), integrated interfaces such as RS485, CANopen, or IO-Link, and IP65 protection, it enables precision and process reliability through monitored format adjustment without occupying valuable space inside the machine.

More Freedom in Machine Layout

Compact design means greater flexibility for OEMs in their machine layout. Densely packed configurations are easier to achieve, assemblies can be modularized and scaled, and the reduced space requirement simplifies integration into existing concepts while speeding up development processes.

"In modern packaging systems, available space is a strategic asset," says Jürgen Schuh, Manager of the Changeover Solutions Business Unit at SIKO. "With our compact solutions made in Germany, we help machine builders implement powerful and cost-effective concepts."

Operators gain advantages, as well: Compact changeover systems adjust easier while product variety increases, helping to reduce changeover times and improve equipment availability.
