Safety Position Sensors: Solutions for Complex Challenges
A focus on functional safety: The key to safe autonomous machines
Safety is the top priority for SIKO. This was also evident in the trade fair highlights of the company, which consist of one of the most extensive portfolios of safety position sensors in the market. They meet the highest safety standards and help make applications future-proof.
"Safe position sensors, also referred to as safety sensors, have been an important part of our product portfolio for 20 years now and are once again the focus of our exhibition booth this year," explains Mathias Roth, Manager of the Mobile Automation Business Unit at SIKO, in an interview. "Construction sites are complex environments, in which a wide range of machines work in direct proximity to people. Especially with highly automated and autonomous machines, it is therefore only right that the focus is on safety requirements. In order to meet these challenges, we support our customers with powerful and reliable sensor solutions," continues Mathias Roth.
Compact, robust, safe: SIKO has innovative sensor technology to meet any challenge
Among the latest product innovations that SIKO presented at CONEXPO 2026 are the WV3600MR and WH3600MR absolute multiturn rotary encoders. In addition to reliable position and speed data, they impress with their small design and diameter of just 36 mm. That’s what makes them currently the most compact safety multiturn encoders for the field of mobile machines. They are based on a magnetic, contactless measuring system, which is battery independent. Therefore, they can operate without maintenance for years, even under the harsh operating conditions in mobile machines.
Another innovative product is the new highly dynamic inertial measurement unit IMS365R, which is certified according to SIL2 and PLd. It not only delivers a dynamically compensated and reliable static inclination value, but also other important data such as accelerations, rotation rates, and Euler angles, which are also available as safety values.
With the new NEO series draw-wires, SIKO introduced more highlights, that impress with their compact design, robustness, and safety up to Performance Level d (PLd). These draw-wire encoders are available with measuring lengths ranging from 3 to 15 meters and feature an impressively compact design. The sensors are up to 25% slimmer than their predecessors and are therefore perfect for integration into machines with limited installation space.
